A New Year’s Prayer 2009

Greetings Beloved! Last year, I began the process of beginning the year praying for all the readers of the Weekly Word. As I begin the weekly words for this year, I thought it befitting to continue that tradition.

Marvelous, Miraculous, and Mysterious God. I first thank You that we have been blessed just to see another year. God I thank You for the impact and the influence that those who may not have made it to 2009 had on our lives. I thank You for every lesson, every laugh, every Loving moment that we shared with those that have left us in this world to continue the struggle for Love, happiness, and freedom. I thank You God for every lesson we learned in 2008 that will aide and assist us as we go into this year. I thank You for every pain, dark moment, trial, tribulation, travail, and tragedy that somehow You allowed us to survive in 2008. But God I also thank You for each and every blessing seen and unseen last year. I thank You that some of us left some relationships that were hurting us, and some of us found some new relationships that have helped us. I thank You God for the election of President Barack Obama. Though every one may not have voted for him, I hope You allow each and everyone of us to see the profound statement of progress in a country partly built on imperialism, theft, and slavery that this past election made.

Now God, as we move into this New Year, I hope You anoint every new goal, every new aspiration, and every new resolution. God I hope You inspire each and every one of us to look at our new plans and elevate them into at least one new DREAM. God I pray that in 2009 you will not let us be satisfied with the status quo, the pedestrian, the mediocre, the ordinary or the average in our lives. I pray that you arouse in us the desire to reach the lofty heights of our created aptitude. God open our eyes, charge our hearts, and create in us an allergy to injustice, bigotry, discrimination, and structural oppression. Give us the resolve to make our community, our church, our family, our nation and our world more Loving and more livable. Finally God, I pray that as we reflect on our new goals, new resolutions, new hopes, and our new dreams, that we understand that all of it is for nothing if we do not become new. So God give us a new walk, a new talk, new drive, new discipline, new determination, and new Love so that our life and living will be new in 2009.

It is in the Loving, liberating, and life-giving name of Jesus I pray, amen.

Humbly in Christ’s Love,
Pastor B.A. Jackson
